The Access to a basic education is a human right. Its fulfillment is a substantial contribution to reducing poverty. Therefore, KNH Ecuador supports the early promotion of children and teenagers and their rights, facilitating access and permanence to a quality inclusive education, strengthening contextual alternative education as well as integral comprehensive offerings for children in situations of high risks.
Rights
The Convention of the Rights of Children of the United Nations constituent the necessary fundamental base of our work. In a country with a Constitution, a law code for children and teenager, a national developing plan, the social notebook of children and teenager constitute the frame which KNH Ecuador is working in; as a result of this context is fundamental to improve the current National Decentralized of Integral Children and Teenager Protection System (SNDPINA), as an official mechanism that contributes to guarantee the exercises of the children’s and teenager’s rights.
Community Development
Development opportunities for children and teenagers are determined by their living environment. A community must reach a situation where it can improve their living conditions in a sustainable way. Our community development programs emphasize personal initiative of those involves and self – help, considering mainly the needs of children and teenagers.
Children and teenagers at risks
Many children and teenagers are still victims of abuse. Children on street situations, children working, children and teenagers with special capabilities, refugee children, children in conflict with the police and justice; and, children victims of sexual abuse, require particular attention and support to overcome their situation and achieve a new outlook on life. KNH Ecuador promotes the rehabilitation forms and integral support to recover.
Assistance in disaster situation
Ecuador, like other Andean countries, has a high degree of vulnerability and risk for various natural hazards. According to the socio -economic and ambient impact studies and environment disasters, show that approximately 33% of direct and indirect losses (human lives, social infrastructure and production) was caused by adverse natural events; KNH – Ecuador focuses its engagement to humanitarian support tasks for victims of disasters such as floods on the coast, volcanic eruption on the mountain, combined with preventive actions to reduce the impact on future events of this nature.
Health and Nutrition
The economic situation of the most vulnerable areas in the country has determinate that our actions give mainly attention to the vital areas of the children’s development, such as health and nutrition, considering them as determinants for its complete development. KNH – Ecuador pays special attention and assigns important resources to promote appropriate conditions that contribute to lower rates of malnutrition in children and to promote the approach of needed health services in our areas of actions.
Advocacy
Kindernothilfe works at national and international partnerships and networks with other organizations to promote the improvement of the economic, social and political changes worldwide. In the beginning of the year 2004 Kindernothilfe received the status of consulter organism of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), which could help to achieved that children’s claims are heard.
In Ecuador the participation at the forum for children, forum of ONG’s, the support for the Social Contract for Education and active participation in the Cantonal Councils for Children and Teenagers, allows us to influence the generation of public politics in favor of children and teenagers rights in force.
